BUCHANAN DAM was built in 1937 to form Lake Buchanan, which has 124 miles of shoreline and is 31 miles long. The dam is considered to be the longest multiple-arch dam of its type in the U.S. and is 145.5 feet high and 10,987.55 feet long. There is a Chamber of Commerce office and visitors' center at the dam to provide information about tourist attractions and activities in the area. There is also a museum located at the dam.
