In the Highland Lakes of Central Texas

Lady Bird Lake—formerly known as Town Lake—is located in the heart of Austin, Texas. It was renamed in honor of Claudia Alta Taylor "Lady Bird" Johnson (1912–2007), the former First Lady of the United States and wife of President Lyndon B. Johnson. A passionate advocate for environmental beautification, Lady Bird Johnson championed the Highway Beautification Act—often called “Lady Bird’s Bill”—and famously believed, “Where flowers bloom, so does hope.”
The lake stretches through downtown Austin, running between Riverside Drive and 1st Street. Interstate 35 crosses over it, making it a central and visible part of the city’s landscape.

Lady Bird Lake spans approximately 6 miles in length and ranges from 400 to 2,500 feet in width, with an average depth of 14 feet. It sits just downstream from Lake Austin on the Colorado River and is maintained at a constant water level.
This calm, scenic lake is ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. To preserve its tranquility, swimming, motorized boats, and jet skis are not permitted—making it a peaceful haven for outdoor enthusiasts right in the middle of Austin.
